Messene – A Dream come True

focuses on the amazing history of the ancient city of Messene, near Kalamata -
how it was designed on the drawing-board and built by thousands of slaves in an almost impossibly short period of time. All this happened in the fourth century BC,
but present day visitors wandering around the site are far closer to its past than they might suspect. New treasures are discovered on an almost daily basis -
graceful statues and fine mosaics, as well as coins, vases and other more mundane objects. The city centre with its theatres, temples and stadium, has already been almost entirely reconstructed, but the residential areas are still awaiting excavation, carried out by archaeologists who flock to Messini from all corners of the earth.
Our book, first published in 2005, shows the reader right around the ancient city
and back to the days when Messini was a lively and prosperous city.
